i was at the broadstairs folk festival and i saw an awesome headress, and i really loved it but the cheeky bugger who was selling it put the price up the next day when i went to buy it :( so i decided to make my own, and it cost half price and i love even more :) p.s the pictures are a little bit crappy and some arnt loading sorry!!!
first i got some long white feathers from hobby craft for around £1.99
i got some short black feathers aswell from hobby crafts for £1.49
then i got assorted pack of feathers for £1.99 (all of the feathers were in the deal so they came up to £3.89)
i also got a little suede bag from a charity shop, to use as the headband.
aswell i got some ribbon from hobby crafts for 59p a meter (i only got one meter there was more than enough!)
i got this belt from the charity shop, becuse of the beading and the leather straps, but an alternative is doing some intricate beading work so i fast tracked it!! ;)
i also got the belt to use as an extra hanging bit for the headress
right now i got everything i cleared a space on the table and started with the headband piece!
okay, so i opened tha bag up so it was alljust one long bit, the i took the stitched end off folded it in half and cut it to make it straight either side. then i folded the left over material that was only just long enough to reach from ear to ear, i was happy with the length so i folded it in half and ironed it, to make it easier.
cool, so now i lined up the long white feathers and put some superglue on the middle of the feather just where it starts being all feathery
then i added 2 beige coloured feathers , and repeated on all the feathers
then on the cross over of the beige feathers i put some more glue on and added some darker feathers the same way
after the glue had dried i arranged the feathers on the suede from the bag and made sure the tips ended a little before half way then duct taped it onto the suede
then i glued the remaining bit of material and folded it up
i used the english dictionary to weigh it down (that book weighs a ton!) and left over night just to be sure!!!
so after it dried i added the short balck feathers in the gaps between the feathers. also i glued some leather straps from the belt at the top. and i glued the ribbon under the strap of leather and at the bottom and sides the i cut up the belt and stuck the beads in the middle!!
then with left over leather straps i stuck them either side of the beads so they hung down. then with the black belt, i poked feathers through the plaits and stuck at the back of the headband so it also hung down.
then i wore it :) (cant really see in this pic, but you caan see the hanging down bits)
