After the success of my crazy cool organza curtain skirt I thought I’d try my hand at a flouncy tulle version…the failed ballerina in me totally digs it! Here’s how to create your own in about 10 minutes from a thrifted curtain:

Instructions

  1. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044348 dscf0924

Grab a thrifted tulle curtain (a lace one would work awesomely as well!) + some waistband elastic & a safety pin *after chopping off the curtain top my tulle measured 280cm x 160cm

  2. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044400 dscf0925

fold the tulle in half lengthwise, place your elastic at the fold & mark the width required for your waistband tunnel (or just eyeball it)

  3. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044412 dscf0926

stitch from one side of your tulle to the other to create the waistband tunnel

  4. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044426 dscf0927

fold the tulle in half width-wise with the raw edges lined up & stitch together starting just below the opening of the waistband tunnel

  5. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044439 dscf0928

attach the safety pin to the end of your elastic & feed it through the waistband tunnel

  6. Small 103706 2f2014 08 02 044451 dscf0930

once all the way through stitch the ends of the elastic together and enjoy your pretty tulle skirt!

    *for an underskirt I simply no-sew-refashioned a white t-shirt

    wheeee!
