Fabric paint is in the acrylic family so if you are having a hard time finding it, use that. Because acrylic is plastic no sealant is required! In screen printing shirts you heat set the paint, but really you are just melting it into the threads. Sealants might change the way the paint looks, for example ultra shiny gloss (which can happen with too much, even of matte finishes) or dull, or textured. Depending on the layers of sealant it may become too thick and make your paint peel off faster. Each shoe and paint combo will be different but these are tips to be aware of! Love those teethie stompers!
Another great choice would be model kit paint (this just popped into my head). It's enamel paint that also does not need a sealant and is my personal favorite to use on shoes. It's popular with pin striping on cars but you can find tiny bottles of tons of colors wherever you buy model kits. Acrylic can have its mistakes corrected easier though (water while wet, peeling when dry) as with these model paints you'll need a thinner which could eat up your shoes depending on what they are made of. A Stabilo non-grease pencil exists that writes on all surfaces and you can use it to plan out your designs. The benefit of this to, say, wax carbon copy paper is that wax will cause paint to resist. This pencil, once the paint is dry, can just be wiped away, but the paint can coat right over it.
Thank you so much CountessAudronasha, I actually joined this site because of your bat headband so that's really nice to hear that you like my project too thank you Morbid Corky!
