The monogram coaster is the first one I did with permanent markers, which bleed, so this is a trial and error thing. I have made others using my woodburner, which turned out rather neat.

Description

The monogram coaster is the first one I did with permanent markers, which bleed, so this is a trial and error thing. I have made others using my woodburner, which turned out rather neat.

Instructions

  1. Small 16349

This is what you will need, including wax paper or plastic bag and paint brush of any kind, which is not pictured.

  2. Small 16350

Lay out 11 craft sticks side-by-side, perfectly or almost squared.

  3. Small 16351

Glue last 2 craft sticks across the 11 layed out sticks. The glue I used is some good stuff, it holds really well.

  4. Small 16356

    Like so.

  5. Small 16352

Place book or heavy object on assembled sticks until dry, which doesn't take long, so if you are making a set of 6 or more or less, you can go ahead and assemble those as well. Then go back to first coaster that you glued together and go to next step.

  6. Small 16353

Draw or trace your image onto your dried piece. You can add this with either the image up and down or across the craft sticks; your choice. I used stencils with the fleur de lis and flower coasters.

  7. Small 16354

Add color to your drawn image. I used my wood burner for the other coasters.

  8. Small 16355

Lay out coaster(s) on wax paper. If you use a plastic bag, cut off handles and the bottom and up the side of the bag to have one layer. Coat finished piece with varnish using manufacturer's instructions. You can add as many coats as you like to get the darkest shade or shine you want. I didn't do the sanding part in between coats.
