I saw this clutch on net-a-porter. After choking over the $750 price tag, I decided to try making it myself. I used a pair of thrifted men's jeans and a pair of thrifted capri pants for the lining. It SUPER DUPER easy and I hope you guys enjoy making it!! Let's get started!!!
Cut your fabric... Cut three 8" x 14" rectangles out of your outer fabric and two 8" x 14" rectangles out of your lining fabric. Add pockets etc. to the lining and set it aside.
Grab one of the 8" x 14" outer pieces. Fold it in half with the right sides together and the long sides touching. Stitch to create a tube leaving the short sides open
Handstitch two side by side rows of wide stitches down the center front of the fabric. The rows should be about 1/2" - 3/4" apart. Pull the thread to gather the fabric. Knot the thread to keep it in place.
Create small pleats on the outer edges of the fabric. These do not have to be neat or even. Pin the pleats in place andstitch them down with a 1/4" seam allowance. Press the fabric flat.
Pin this piece to the right side of one of the outer pieces and stitch in place with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Let's work on the zipper... Cut two 2" x 14" strips. Place the zipper on top of one of the strips with the right sides together. Stitch in place with a 1/4" seam allowance. repeat this process on the opposite side of the zipper. Press the seam flat and stitch the seam allowance down stitching about 1/8" from the zipper teeth. Repeat this step on the other side of the zipper with the other strip
Let's put it all together... Place one of the outer pieces, one of the lining pieces right sides together with the zipper strip sandwiched in between. The right side of the zipper strip should face the right side of the outer piece. Pin and sew with 1/2" seam allowance. Repeat this process with the remaining two piees on the opposite side of the zipper strip.
Seperate the lining from the outside of the bag. Place the two outer pieces together and the lining pieces together with the zipper pushed in toward the lining. Pin and sew both of the short sides.
Making sure the zipper is open, stitch the long side of the outer piece. Stitch the long side of the lining and leave an opening.
Use the opening to turn your clutch right side out. Stitch the outer part of the clutch to the zipper strip.
That's a wrap folks!! Be sure to post your super cute version below. If you have any questions or tips on how to make this better, send em my way.
