Steps (9 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
Take your watercolour paper and tape it off into sections. This will create our series of landscapes.
-
2
Find some photos of landscapes you find pleasing. You can choose several or just one that we can modify into a series. Sometimes cropping an image helps to simplify your painting.
-
3
Draw a few details in pencil for your landscapes.
-
4
Using just a few colours of watercolour, paint your landscape scenes. Focus on the dark and light areas. Do not worry about small details just look at the big shapes.
-
5
This is a great exercise for beginners and kids.
-
6
If using just one photo try altering where the horizon line is in each painting. Maybe one on a diagonal, one up high, one down low, etc.
-
7
Try doing a few different sets of these mini landscapes.
-
8
When finished remove tape and cut into 4 individual paintings. You can now display these on a painted canvas or piece of wood. I also like to buy frames that allow for multiple photos and frame my landscape collections.
