Instructions

  1. Small 109721 2f2015 07 03 154400 20150703 142131

    1. First gather your supplies. Here is a selection of varied colours of fabric and embroidery floss/threads from a kit by dandelyne and a separate mini hoop also by dandelyne. I decided on the pale green and the pink and brown thread to create a Japanese inspired cherry blossom type motif inspired by Aimee Ray's doodle stitching motif collection book.

    2. Fit fabric on to the small hoop and tighten the bolt pulling the fabric taught so you have a tight tambour. Then seperate the strands from the threads in to three pairs of two and thread your needle with two strands. Two strands gives a fine detail to the embroidery but if you want it to be bolder you can use more or all six strands. Choose a design of your choice to stitch and you can either draw it direct on to the fabric or you could trace you design using carbon paper or tailor transfer paper, or like me freestyle it

    3. Stitch over your design or freestyle it

    4. Once finished stitching, tie your threads at the back and remove from the hoop and measure it up to the mini hoop.

    5. Position the design and centre it to the hoop. Place the fastenings to tighten the mini hoop and pull the design tight and taught.

    6. Cut the design from the excess fabric and trim neatly. You can if you want glue the fabric to the backing board of the mini hoop to make it secure. I personally didn't because I like the idea of being able to change it to match my look

  7. Small 109721 2f2015 07 03 154920 20150703 154356

    7. Glue the brooch back finding with jewellery glue and allow to fully dry.

    7. Voilà! Finished mini embroidery hoop brooch. Right I off to make a pendant to match
