Description

This is a Christmas gift for my sister inspired by an armoire of our grandmother's that she has.

Instructions

  1. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 180549 img 20141220 160540

You'll want to start by cutting the sleeve to your matchbox in half

  2. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 180705 img 20141220 160616

I covered each side individually with paper, then folded in the end so it could only open from the middle.

  3. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 180812 img 20141220 160623

I leave one side longer to folks over because I think it looks cleaner.

  4. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 181010 img 20141220 161236

If you used plain paper to cover and you want the look this one has, start by drybrushing acrylic around the edges

  5. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 181128 img 20141220 161304

Then use direct-to-paper method (putting spongy part with ink directly on project instead of using a stamp as intermediary) with one stamp pad (I used yellow)

  6. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 181409 img 20141220 161500

Use a second stamp pad of a different color in the same method once that is dry. (I used brown,)

  7. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 181507 img 20141220 162744

Line the inside drawer piece. The easiest way to do this is trace around it and put a rectangle that is the depth of each side out from each side of your tracing. It ends up looking like a bigger rectangle with squares cut from the corners.

  8. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 181818 img 20141220 164021

Once everything is covered and dry, you'll want to make complimentary holes on each side of the outside of your box.

  9. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 194441 img 20141220 164253

Take a piece of wire and fold it in half, and place one of your small beads at the half

  10. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 194534 img 20141220 164429

Assemble your box and then pull the bead/wire from the inside out

  11. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 182440 img 20141220 164930

Repeat the last two steps on the other side (it is better to do this while it's assembled so that you don't catch the inside bead when trying to put the drawer in, then the bread also holds the pieces together afterward too)

  12. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 182600 img 20141220 170219

Tie a knot at the end of your cord and last it between the two wires on one side

  13. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 182719 img 20141220 170615

Run the wire up through the bead cap and small beads, then back down through the bead cap so you can tie a knot underneath it

  14. Repeat step 13 on the other side

  15. Small 106460 2f2014 12 23 194613 img 20141220 170924

You should now be able to make a figure 8 with the cord to close it like an envelope.
