Instructions

Stage 1 Ok so I forgot to take a picture of the first stage, me and my friend were having way too much fun. So take one cheap mask, doesn't matter what its made from as long as you can cut it with a craft knife. Draw on the mask the shape you want it to be (you will probably need to widen the eye holes at this point)If you want extra height or length then use masking tape to attach card cut to the shape you want to the mask.

Stage 2 Take your plaster bandages, wet and squeeze them then apply to mask. Cover all of the inside and outside. Be careful of areas you have attached you may have to use a few extra bandages to ensure they stay put. Allow to dry, do not move onto stage 3 till the plaster has set. (me and my friend used this drying time to make brownies)

Stage 3 When plaster is dry take a fine sandpaper and clean the edges so there are no sharp bits, especially around the eyes.

Stage 4 Ok so this pic looks odd but let me explain. Take some felt and glue to the inside of the mask. To push the felt into the shape of the nose and eye holes we filled a bag of water and placed it on top. I am sure there are other things you could use here but this is how we did it. Allow to dry.

Stage 5 Trim off excess felt (don't forget the eye holes!)

  6. Small img 0696 1264290637

Stage 6 Cover the front of the mask with fabric. We used a hot glue gun to attach the fabric to the back of the mask around the edges.

  7. Small img 0698 1264290760

Stage 7 Layer on more fabric of your choice. Use how much or as little as you want. Once again we used glue to attach.

    Stage 8a Attach feathers or...

  9. Small img 0700 1264290960

Stage 8b fabric, just go with what feels right for your colours and style chosen.

  10. Small img 0703 1264291055

Stage 9a Go mad with anything you can think of. We used little bows, old fabric dragonflies and sequins.

  11. Small img 0705 1264291175

Stage 9b Here we used children's glitter pens. Now attach it with string, or a pole for wearing to a masquerade party or just hang it on your wall. Tada my first project on CO+K!! Thanks for looking

Other ideas..... Instead of fabric you can always paint it, this is an example of one of my painted masks which was built up using card. I have worn this out many times and I still get compliments since its so unusual. I will be doing an earth, air, fire and water set next so keep an eye out for them.
