Marilyn Monroe Hairstyle Tutorial

How to achieve Marilyn bouncy hair for short hair

About

The most recognisable rockabilly hairstyles are victory rolls and beehives which are beautiful – but what do you do if you have short hair?

I have a fringe and my hair is cut short at the back so it can be spiked up. I do have longer hair at the side though, so I can play around a bit with this hair.

If you have a similar haircut then my Marilyn Monroe style hair tutorial is just for you!

You Will Need (3 things)

  • Hair Rollers
  • Hairspray
  • Hair Pastels (optional)

Steps (6 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

Start by shampooing your hair, but don’t condition. The hair takes better to back combing and curling if it is dry and non-silky. Blow dry your hair up and away from your face

  2. 2

I used my Babyliss Thermo-Ceramic Rollers. Heat them up for about 5 minutes or until the heat indicator on one of the larger rollers turns white

  3. 3

My hair curlers come with crocodile clips and hair pins so you have a choice in how you secure the roller

  4. 4

The rollers come in three sizes. I used the larges rollers on my fringe and rolled my hair up. Next use the larger rollers on the longer parts of your hair, roll up for Marilyn-bouncy hair. I also used the smallest rollers on the right side of my head where my hair is shorter. Give the heated rollers about 10 minutes in your hair.

  5. 5

After 10 minutes remove the curlers and brush the curls with a round brush after allowing time for your hair to cool and set. Use a little Batiste dry hair shampoo and/or a hair pastel that matches your hair tone. I used a white hair pastel and brushed it over my curls and then did a lot of scrunching to add volume to my hair.

  6. 6

Hair spray and you’re all set.
