This could easily be made in a solid by continuing the pattern instead of finishing off where indicated. You could alter these to be for Valentine's Day (Red, White, Pink), 4th of July (Red, White, Blue), Christmas (Red, White, Green), Or just using some favorite colors instead!! The tassel is optional and can be made longer or wider by changing variable mentioned in step 22!

Gather your supplies: +1 skein each of Purple, Yellow, and Green Crochet Thread +Hairpin Lace Loom +Crochet Hook Size 8/ 1.50mm +Scissors +Stitch Markers (helpful but not necessary)
To learn how to start using a lace loom I used a lovely tutorial by Birgit Tüchsen found at http://bynumber19.com/2011/08/28/hairpin-lace-crochet-tutorial/ To start set Loom to 1 1/2" wide.
Create a loop half the width of the space with green and put onto the left side of the loom.
Make 45 loops on each side.
Skip the First 3 loops. Attach yellow to the 4th loop. SC in 4th loop, 5th loop, and 6th loop ch 5.
Go back and SC in the First 3 loops.
Skip next 3 loops (loops 7,8,9) and SC in following 3 loops (loops 10,11,12).
CH 5, pull the 3 skipped loops up and SC in each (loops 7,8,9).
Repeat down this side: Skip 3 loops, SC in next 3 loops, CH 5, SC in each of skipped 3 loops. When you reach the end of this side CH 5, SC into center of green, CH 5. Repeat All of this step down the other side of the green loops. Finish Round by SC into first yellow stitch.
Into CH 5 loop: SC 3, CH 1, SC 3. Into the space between the CH 5 loops (in between each 6 green loops): SC 1, CH 1, SC 1. Repeat around and finish off.
Attach purple in CH space, CH 6, SC in next CH space. Repeat around.
In each CH 6 loop: SC, HDC, DC, TCH, DC, HDC, SC. Finish off and weave in all ends.
Finish off and weave in all ends.
Optional Tassel: Cut a piece of purple around 6-8 inches long.
Wrap some purple thread around the loom. I wrapped it around 10 times. I also left the skein attached so it didn't unwrap itself.
Wrap some yellow around. I wrapped it around 10 times.
Add some green- I did 10 here too.
Scrunch it all together. Take the piece of purple string and run it in between the gap of the string loop.
Tie the string into a tight knot at the top of the bundle. Cut the string off from the skeins at or below the bottom bar of the loom.
Cut another piece of purple string. This time instead of going in the gap, time wrap the string around the entire bundle. Tie it in a tight knot just below the Top bar.
Remove the loop of string from the loom. Slide a pair of scissors into the loop middle and pull it to the bottom. Cut along the bottom to turn the loop into a tassel.
Tie a knot in the middle of the purple string at the top-don't trim the extra string just yet! This is the loop to attach the tassel to the bookmark. Trim the uneven strings at the bottom of your tassel. *The tassel can be made Longer by widen the bars of the loom- Wider by wrapping more string around the loom- and the Hanging/Attaching loop can be made longer by cutting a longer piece of string at step 14.
To attach the tassel: Run the purple loop through a point at the end of the bookmark.
Pull the tassel end through the loop and pull taught. Now you can trim the purple strings down!
Get ready the mark your page and to mark the date for Mardi Gras!
