Making Fake Fur (String Method)
Sometimes I play with string. - This was one of those times.

Not the fastes method for making a fringe like furry trim but this method should work for basically any style of string, or yarn. ---Can also be done totally by hand (posting that as a diffrent version.)
I think this is easier on heavy material.

You Will Need (4 things)
- Smooth Flat Bar To Wrap Around
- BUT all you really need is Thread
- OR Yarn
- Whatever String you like
Steps (21 steps, 20 minutes)
-
1
Find something smooth and flat, I'm using a pressing bar. Tie the string so the knots at the top, just keep wrapping the string around until you get it as long as you want OR until you run out of Bar...
-
2
If your string has a pattern you can use this pattern to make strips in the fur (that's was my goal.)
-
3
No start a sewing thread at the beginning of the Bar, I use a "button hole stich"
-
4
tie off to the top
-
5
The stich goes under, making a loop
-
6
you go back throught the loop.
-
7
Pull it tight. You may want to knot it again.
-
8
As you move along the Bar, you can slide the threads apart to make it easier to go under them. Make sure you stich each loop of the string, or the Loops can come out of the chain. *just trim them if that happens.
-
9
The knots should all line up on the edge.
-
10
after you sew all the way down the Bar, you can slide it off the end, if you want it longer then the bar, son't slide it off all the way start wrapping more and stich that as well, Repeat as desired.

The trim does have a spiral to it...
Its great for going around things like pens, or around a round part of a costume, it bends and shapes like bias tape... *(You could make these chains in diffrent colors and sew them down in cool patterns in stripes...)
-
12
Here it is wound up.
-
13
I'm putting a zigzagstich over in red, the chain of hand stiching should hold it so you don't need the tighest stich here.
-
14
its easy to just untwist it as you go, ever few inches.
-
15
As you see there are white stripes in my purple... I'm lining this up with the next row of chain.
-
16
The closer you are together with the rows the fluffier the fur will be.
Diffrent yarns and even types of Embrodery threads should make diffrent results of fur textures. *I wanted something that had a pattern and show up I've played with yarn, floss, threads You can make diffrent textures.
-
17
as you can see the white lines line up (ish) this could be a Tiger stripped effect.
-
18
3rd rwo also almost lined up.
-
19
*The rows are not perfectly spaced, I don't think they need to be that perfect.

You can cut the loops, and that may change the texture a bit Especially if they are made from fibers and will come untwisted and look more fluffy.
