Safety eyes are expensive, googly eyes are tacky, and embroidering them on is too much hard work. Make your own plastic covered eyes using just glue, a print out and an empty drinks bottle!
Safety eyes are expensive, googly eyes are tacky, and embroidering them on is too much hard work. Make your own plastic covered eyes using just glue, a print out and an empty drinks bottle!
Collect your stuff! Print out some eyes from online (I'm making the 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' characters, so they're what I'm using here). You could use eyes from a character you particularly like the look of, of just find some random ones on Google. Or draw your own.
Choose the eyes from your sheet (save paper by printing out lots of sets at once) and also cut a strip of clear plastic from your bottle (you can just see it on the left in the photo).
Cut around your eyes carefully, taking care with fiddly things like eyelashes.
Using the glue stick, paste your eyes FACE UP onto the back of the plastic (so they are glued behind it in this photo). This forms the protective plastic cover for your eye. Leave to dry (I suggest for a few hours to be safe, but if you're impatient half an hour is time enough).
Cut your eyes out. This time you don't need to cut around the fiddly bits - since it's clear plastic you can leave them on a chunk and no-one will notice.
Use your glue gun to glue them in place on your toy, or if big enough you could put a couple of careful stitches in them (I'd recommend the glue gun over all though!).
