In this tutorial I will show you how to transform a plain glass lantern from Ikea into your own creation featuring a mosaic-inspired pattern.
In this tutorial I will show you how to transform a plain glass lantern from Ikea into your own creation featuring a mosaic-inspired pattern.
Clean the inside of the lantern with a cloth and methilated spirits.
Select your paper napkins: you will need a variety of both colours and patterns to create an effective mosaic motif. Separate each napkin, remove the two bottom layers and keep the top one only.
You pieces of paper need to be approximately 3 x 4 cm each and you'll use 80 to cover the whole cylinder.
Use a felt tip pen to mark the mid-line of the cilinder: this will be your starting point for the design.
Place the cylinder on its side and, starting from the mid-line, glue the paper pieces vertically and next to each other. You may need to allow the glue to dry between strips.
Once you have covered the whole surface, check for loose bits of paper and apply extra glue if necessary. Alow to dry and your colourful storm lantern is ready to use!
