My dress used to be a long, straight skirt with funky prints. All I had to do to make the dress is to add straps at my shoulder length, using 2 strips of ribbon, and put an elastic belt around it! Now isn't that nice? (Note: I used an old, elastic-waist skirt for this project.) This is my first HOW TO project! I hope the instructions, and my drawings, are helpful to you! I would love to see your versions of my handmade dress, too!

Turn your skirt inside out.
Put your skirt on, so the waist band is around your "bra area."
Using two long pieces of thick ribbon and a safety pin or two, mark your shoulder length on the front and back sides of your dress project. (Pin each strap on the shoulder sides, leaving at least an inch away from each edge of the ribbons, and underneath the waist band.)
Using a needle and some thread, carefully sew where you marked your shoulder length to attach your shoulder straps. (Warning: Do NOT sew the FRONT and BACK parts TOGETHER!) Remember to take your skirt off your body, and take the pins off as well, before you start sewing the straps.
Finally, you have a brand new dress!!! All you have to do is put an elastic-waist belt around your sharp dress, and you are good to go!
