Steps (14 steps, 45 minutes)
-
1
Start by protecting your surface with a piece of paper, as little shards of glass will go everywhere. Remove the metal circle on the top of the bulb using a pair of pliers.
-
2
Use an awl to break the black glass at the top by piercing it through the hole and snapping the glass bit by bit.
-
3
Pour the glass and all the fragments out onto the paper.
-
4
Using a long pair of pliers, carefully break the glass securing the filament at the top and then pull it out through the hole. Don't let it knock the side of the bulb as it falls or it might break the glass.
-
5
Carefully break away any excess glass around the top and then throw away all the shards along with the sheet of paper.
-
6
If your lightbulb has any text on the bottom, use the end of your awl to scratch it off.
-
7
Clean up your bulb and it's ready to fill.
-
8
Fill your bulb with a little soil.
-
9
Add a layer of small pebbles or stones.
-
10
Place your plants inside.
-
11
Add stones, moss and anything extra you'd like until you're happy with your terrarium.
-
12
Use the awl to pierce to holes at either side of the metal cap.
-
13
Thread a long length of wire through the two holes.
-
14
Twist the end of the wire together and it's ready to hang.
