Leafy Baby Blanket

Quick and pretty lace baby blanket

About

This is a lovely blanket that knits up quickly on larger needles. I recommend either DK weight yarn held two strands at a time, or a worsted weight. As this is a lace pattern, preferably choose natural fibers that will block well. Great way to practice different decreases.
Finished measurements: 75x70 cm (30x28 in)
Gauge: 1 pattern repeat=11,5 cm (4,5 in). Exact gauge is not critical for the project. Please note that if your gauge is different, the finished garment will have different measurements.

You Will Need (3 things)

  • 6 skein DK Knitting Yarn
  • 1 x 5mm / US 8 Knitting Needles
  • 10 x Stitch Marker

Steps (7 steps, 240 minutes)

  1. 1

    Cast on 100 stitches.

You can easily adjust the width and length of the project. One pattern repeat is 15 stitches (that’s one leaf width-wise and two leaves long-wise, the first one leaning to the right, and the second one leaning to the left). Make a swatch with 2 repeats of the pattern to see what size you’ll get and to decide how many
repeats you’d need to cast on for. To calculate the total number of stitches to cast on, multiply 15 by the number of the repeats you want to make and add 10 stitches (you need 2 for the lace pattern to line up, and 4 for each side border of seed stitch)

  2. 2

Knit six rows in seed stitch:
    Over even number of stitches: Row 1. (K1, p1). Row 2. (P1, k1) Repeat rows 1 & 2 two more times.
    Over odd number of stitches: Row 1. (K1, p1), k1. Row 2. K1, (p1, k1). Repeat rows 1 & 2 two more times.

  3. 3

Start lace pattern repeats. Repeat stitches in brackets six times (or as many times as you have decided). If you have odd number of stitches, last 4 sts of each row should be [p1, k1] two times instead of k1, p1, to keep the seed stitch border aligned
    Row 7: k1, p1, k1, p1, (p2, k 13), p2, k1, p1, k1, p1
    Row 8. k1, p1, k1, p1, k2, (p13, k2), k1, p1, k1, p1
    Row 9. k1, p1, k1, p1, (p2, k 10, k2tog, yo, k1), p2, k1, p1, k1, p1
