Remove the lamp shade, bulb, and lamp shade hardware.
Prep the lamp by wiping it down with a damp paper towel and a light sanding. Attach painter's tape on the bottom and around the cord.
Lay the lamp on the side and spray paint the bottom edge gold with a few light coats. If you get too close, the paint will crinkle/bubble. If this happens, wipe it off or let it dry and sand off, and paint again.
This is important! Wait about a week for the paint to cure, then tape off the gold edge at the bottom and socket hardware at the top and spray paint a glossy white. Make sure you do a few light coats again. (So sorry I didn't take pictures of these steps, I thought I had...)
Add trim the lamp shade by measuring ribbon around the circumference of the shade.
Start at the back seam of the lamp shade and add a little hot glue to attach the ribbon.
Continue around the lamp shade with the ribbon, adding a little glue dot about every 6 inches.
Add as many "bands" as you like. I put two at the bottom and one at the top.
