This was made for a friend, she really likes Owl City and she liked my top that was braided similarly. I used t-shirt transfer paper to get the picture of Adam Young and the Owl City logo on. It's a tweeked version of this shirt, done by TheSorryGirls, who have heaps of great tutorials!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mck41lv3jII&feature=relmfu

Description

This was made for a friend, she really likes Owl City and she liked my top that was braided similarly. I used t-shirt transfer paper to get the picture of Adam Young and the Owl City logo on. It's a tweeked version of this shirt, done by TheSorryGirls, who have heaps of great tutorials!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mck41lv3jII&feature=relmfu

Instructions

  1. Small img 4817

Gather your supplies. This looks best when the shirt is too big.

  2. Small img 4818

Lay your shirt out. Cut off the sleaves - start 2-4 cm below the seam and continue cutting upwards close to the seam. You can use the first sleave as a guideline for your second.

  3. Small img 4823

Turn the shirt over. Cut on the red lines shown in the picture, but only the back layer of the shirt, not both layers. Cut bigger holes for a lower back and smaller for a less revealing back.

  4. Small img 4825

Turn the shirt back over. Cut off the colar(cut through both layers at once so the back has the same shape as the front). Don't cut too much off (only 2-3cm) otherwise it will be a very low neckline, because as you know the fabric stretches a lot.

  5. Small img 4826

Turn the shirt over again. Cut across the area joining the shirt to the colar area.

  6. Small img 4827

Cut two slits down the main part of the back, making 3 strips of fabric.

  7. Small img 4829

Stretch out the 3 strips of fabric so they curl over a bit and look nice and purdddy.

  8. Small img 4830

Do the first twist(idk what to call it) of the braid. Stop here.

  9. Small img 4831

Find a covered bit of material and place the lace on it. Check that the beginning of the lace will be covered.

  10. Small img 4833

    Sew it on.

  11. Small img 4834

    Continue plaiting.

  12. Small img 4835

When you've got to the top, put a few stitches in it so it does not come apart.

  13. Small img 4837

Pick up the collar piece of material (U shaped neck piece). Sew this to the plait.

  14. Small img 4840

Cut a strip of fabric from some of the previously cut pieces. Pull it a little to stretch it it you want.

  15. Small img 4841

Wrap it around the area that the braid joins to the neck of the shirt. This is to cover the messy-ness.

  16. Small img 4843

Cut a small piece of your lace and wrap it around this. Sew them both onto the shirt.

  17. Cut off the bottom seam if you wish. I like to do this to continue the look of the rest of the shirt. Stretch the bottom of the shirt, arm holes, back holes, neck holes, and everywhere that has been cut by tugging on them a bit. This makes it look nicer and neater with cute curled edges.
