Fashion is a $385.7bn global industry, providing all sorts of styles at a range of prices - from cheap and affordable to expensive and glamorous - to many customers. But many clothes are not personalised and are mass produced, lacking a personal feel and the fashion industry is the second biggest polluter after the oil industry. And while there are still great strives in fashion to come that might improve these fundamental issues in the industry - with the coming rise of wearable technology and smart clothes - change is needed now. There are things you can do today to choose a better course.

Instructions

  1. To give you a scarf that’s almost 5 inches wide you should cast on 12 stitches using the simple wrap cast on. Vary the number of stitches for a wider or thinner scarf.

  2. Knit every stitch and every row with the same garter stitch until you have about a yard of yarn left, or the scarf has reached your desired length. You can also add a new ball of yarn to extend the length or add a different color.

  3. Then you should bind off.

  4. Cut the yarn being careful to leave a tail of about 6 inches.

  5. Using the crochet hook, weave in the ends at the top and the bottom, and any extra ends if you used a second ball of yarn.

  6. And there you go, your very own, hand made, personal scarf! Wear it with pride: you worked hard on it and it surely looks amazing!
