I hear that most people wants buy kitsune masks or anbu(naruto) online.
So.. I'm posting a tutorial on how to make one, its cheap and you can make a lot of them.

This process it will take 3 to 4 days to complete

(in this tutorial i won't be using flour and water for paper mache because, the process takes longer to finish and it also messy to clean up)

You Will Need (8 things)

  • Plastic Wrap
  • Water Spray
  • Oil Clay
  • School Glue
  • Newspapers requires alot
  • Water 6 tablespoons
  • Brush optional
  • Palette Knife optional

Steps (7 steps, 2880 minutes)

  1. 1

To make the base use 40 sheets of newspaper and a bowl of water or water spray to mold the shape.

  2. 2

Add plastic wrap to seal it and tuck the plastic wrap underneath . Then add oil clay to cover the newspaper mold and add 2nd layer of plastic wrap to cover the clay base but this time don't tick the wrap because you'll need to lift off when the paper mache is dry .

(if you don't add wrap over the clay, the paper mold won't come off.)

  3. 3

once you've added 2nd layer of plastic wrap you can start with the gllue. in a small bowl add half of pva or school glue and add 6 tablepoons of water. Make sure the glue is thick as syrup. The thicker you use the harder it will last.

  4. 4

Fold and cut the newspaper into strips and dip the strips in the glue and attach on the mask horizontatly and verticaly, add 4 ~5 layers until is thick enough. Let it dry for 36 hours until it's very hard.

(you can use a brush or a palette knife to smooth the paper lumps.)

  5. 5

In this picture you may wonder what type of paper i'm using.
i used hanji (traditional korean paper) because, there are many smooth textures and it also can be thick or thin.but for you guys you can use newspaper instead.

  6. 6

Once it's done you can cut the the eye holes and edges add more paper mache to the edge of the face

  7. 7

You may paint ! once you're done painting with the mask with glue as varnish.
