Here is a simple tutorial on how to turn your pet into a felt doll so you & your child can keep the memory of playing this game together. We were all very sad to hear of EA's decision to shut down our beloved FB game so here is another way to remember and cherish your pet long after the game is gone.
Here is a simple tutorial on how to turn your pet into a felt doll so you & your child can keep the memory of playing this game together. We were all very sad to hear of EA's decision to shut down our beloved FB game so here is another way to remember and cherish your pet long after the game is gone.
Start by snapping a photo of your pet without any clothes on. You're simply doing this for the outline of the body and the shapes of the eyes, nose, mouth and any forehead marks they have. Make sure you snap the picture while your pets arms are out, otherwise they will be stuck to the body if your finalized project.
Enlarge your image as much as possible to fit on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. It will look slightly fuzzy but that's ok because we just need the outline.
Here is a picture of 2 pet cutouts. One that arms out and one that doesn't you can see why it is important to snap the picture at the right time.
Print your image (color or black & white) and cut it out. This is your pattern. Once your image is cut out, you can pin it to a piece of felt of the color of your choice and carefully cut around it to get the shape of your pet. Optional: If pinning it is too difficult or if you're doing this project with small children, you can always trace the outline using a marker that won't bleed through the felt. Remember that you can always make the 'traced on' side be the back of your pet OR you can cut out 2 different colors and glue them together (traced sides together) to have a "reversible" pet!
After you've cut out as many colors of your pet as you want, it is time to cut out the facial features. You can cut out the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows and forehead mark from the paper to use as patterns. They can be pinned onto or traced onto the color felt of your choice. Cut them out. Remember to do 2 of each where needed! You can choose to tacky or fabric glue them to your pet or make lots of facial feature options and have them free floating so you or your child can change the way your pet looks when ever you want! A simple trick for the eyes might be to cut out the black and white parts of the eyes and have those glued together or on your pet but make different colors of the pupils so they are "swap-able". The possibilities are endless so do what makes you happy and remember to share pictures!
The last thing you need to do is design your own clothing and accessories. You can go to www.pet-book.it and view the clothing items to get some ideas. The exciting part is being able to design your own. I chose this dress from the petbook page because of its simple shape. http://www.pet-book.it/index.php?page=item&id=102 If you are printing a dress to use as a pattern, make sure it matches up to the size of the pet you cut out for your pattern. It's hard to tell, but there are 2 images. One is my pet without any clothing and the other is the dress image that I took from pet-book. I inserted it onto the page and enlarged it until it matched the size of my pet. Delete the image of your pet and then just print the dress for the pattern. Once you have the basic shape of your outfit cut out onto the felt, you can always choose to embellish the outfit with jewels, smaller felt cut-outs, patches, buttons, etc... The possibilities are endless! Please share your pictures and ideas. :-)
I hope this tutorial has brought comfort to those who have played Pet Society for years. This will give you something to show for all the time (and money) you've spent on the game. Until June 14th, Luna and I can only hope for a miracle. The outcome (at the top) looks kinda funny without all the highlights and stuff. I would probably just fill in most of that with fabric paint. A lot of the facial features were very difficult to cut out. You could always see if fabric paint would work better for you instead of cutting out teeny tiny pieces of felt. Enjoy!!!
