Repurpose an old CD storage spinner into a great jewelry display unit
Repurpose an old CD storage spinner into a great jewelry display unit
Locate a spinning CD holder from a thrift shop or yard sale.
Using a yard stick measure and cut 4 pieces of foam core board with an exacto knife, one for each side of the spinner
Test the pieces to make sure that the form core board fits under the lip of the top of the spinner, cut/adjust as needed
Lay out fabric of choice [I used burlap] and lay the 4 pieces of foam core side by side, leaving quarter inch in between. Trim excess fabric. Leave an inch or two around all 4 sides.
Use strong packing tape. First tape the 4 pieces of foam core together leaving a small space in between to act as a hinge. Then turn the fabric edges one by one and tape them flat to the boards all the way around
This show the fully taped boards
Fabric side of taped boards
Carefully begin adding the fabric covered boards to the sides of the spinner. If the boards are not a snug fit, you can use an adhesive glue such as gorilla glue.
All 4 sides snugged in and tight. If you like, add a decorative ribbon around the middle
Here is the finished product. [ I ended up making two of these ]
To hang or display jewelry, use curtain hooks poked through the fabric, into the foam board
Hooks in place and jewelry ready to display.
