We all make mistakes or do dumb things. It's OK, it's not the end of the world I always here people say. I constantly need reminded of this in my sewing room so I decided to make my own inspirational wall banner to hang next to my sewing machine. This is a fun project to make as you can personalize it any way you like. What saying inspires you? Make it out of different fonts, fabrics and sizes. I'm going to show you how I made mine in a few easy steps.

This is a fun project to make as you can personalize it any way you like. What saying inspires you? Make it out of different fonts, fabrics and sizes. I'm going to show you how I made mine in a few easy steps.
Using a Word document type your saying using the font of your choosing and print onto paper. My font was Cooper Black at a size of 200.
Trace your letters onto your fusible interface. You will want to trace your letters onto the fusible side of the interface so make sure your fusible side is facing up when tracing otherwise your letters will be backwards when you iron the interface onto your fabric.
Iron your interface onto the wrong side of your fabric. You will notice your letters are backwards which is exactly what you want to see.
Cut out your letters. The interface will keep your fabric from fraying.
For the banner use some tracing paper to make a template. You can make your banner as big or small as you'd like. You will see in the photo the measurements I used for mine.
Using your template cut out 2 of your fabric and 2 of your fusible interface. Trim your interface down so that it's smaller than your fabric to avoid adding extra bulk to your seams. Iron your interface onto the wrong side of your fabric. Note: I didn't want my banner to be too flimsy and I only had light weight interface so that's why I cut two pieces of interface for front and back. If you have a heavier weight fusible interface you could probably get away with only cutting one piece.
Place your two pieces wrong sides together. Leaving the top open sew the other 4 sides using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I find it helpful to take my seam gauge and a pencil and mark the seam allowance on my three corners so I know where to stop and turn when sewing.
Trim the seams around each corner so you will get a well formed point. Turn the banner right side out. Use a point turner (or a dull pencil if you don't have a point turner) to help form crisp corners. Iron your seams flat.
Topstitch around the banner about 1/8th from the edge. Following that row of stitches, topstitch again 1/8th inch away.
Fold your top edge under 1/4 inch and iron. Fold over again by 1 inch this time and iron. Pin in place and take to your machine and sew the fold in place about 7/8th inch from the top edge. Now you have an opening for your dowel rod.
Position your letters onto your banner where you see fit. When your happy with the placement glue them down with some Liquid Stitch fabric glue.
Cut your dowel rod to the length needed (I used a carpenter's knife - be careful) and insert into your banner. Wrap twine around both ends of the dowel rod and knot. Note: my dowel rod was 1/4 inch thick in diameter.
Hang wherever a little inspiration is needed!
