Love this! You can’t beat thrifted fabric (both the purple fabric and waistband fabric I got at the goodwill). I spent a whopping $5.95 on this project and still have enough fabric left over to make another pair. So REALLY I spent like $3.00 on these.. ok that’s craziness! I love these pants because you won’t find a more comfortable waistband, you can adjust it to cover more belly (like when you just chowed a pint of ice cream) or wear it low and more of a “skirt” over pant look if your feeling sassy. Oh but wait!, let’s say you want o go run some quick errands, no need to change my friend. Flip up that waistband, add a belt and run on your way. (it’s no one else's business if you just happened to sleep in that same outfit the night before. !) Supplies: Sewing Machine and appropriate thread Fabric (I got my purple fabric for $3.50 at goodwill and it was nearly 4 yards worth!) knit or woven doesn’t matter, the knit version fits loser Knit fabric, like tshirt style knit or yoga pant style knit for waistband. I found about a yard of it at goodwill. Pattern drafted from the “Pants” pattern in this book - Design it yourself, pattern making simplified the basic pant pattern without waistband or anything. as we are doing a different fit.

Instructions

  1. First step is to make your pants pattern so it fits your body perfectly! the instructions are great in the book. This is the pattern you will use for the rest of this project. make it so the waistband area is at or just above your belly button. it's important to make it a twofer kinda pants!

  2. Small step 1

Fold fabric right sides together. Lay pattern, pin and cut.

  3. Small step 3 pin and sew

Keeping right sides together. Pin crotch seams and sew.

  4. Small step 4 pin

Put right sides together and pin all legs (4 sides) do not try to get fabric to lay flat, one side of your pattern is a bit bigger so match the side and inner seams to each other. vs. trying to lay totally flat.

  5. Small step 5 measure 9 inches folded

Fold over knit fabric with stretchiest part going left to right. Measure approx 9" folded over (so 18" if I unfolded).

  6. Small step 6 stretch to cut

Stretch double folded section around waist to see comfort. you want it snug but not super tight. cut where you match and leave approx 1" seam allowance.

  7. Small step 7 cut

Cut that section and your left with something like this.

  8. Small step 8 unfoled and open then right sides

Unfold then put right sides together (notice it's the shorter sections not the longer that I am sewing) then sew this seam.

  9. Small step 9 fold inward

Fold wrong sides together, So you have something that looks like this. With the seams on the inside and a nice finished seam on the outside. This is now your "right side" of the fabric.

  10. Small step 10 pin right sids

Pin right sides together with opening of folded waist band to the top of pants. The best way to do this is to pin the back seams together. Then with it all flat, pin the side seams and front center seam for a total of 4 pin areas.

  11. Small step 12 when sewing stretch

When sewing you'll have to stretch the knit fabric to fit the pant fabric. make sure to use a zig zag or stretch stitch on your sewing machine!

  12. Small step 13 determin hem

    Put on and determine hem.

  13. Small step 14 hem

Hem to desired length. Trim and finish pants.

  14. Small mykindatwofer

All done! comfy jammies AND a jumper ;)
