My husband wanted a more masculine "topper" for his dresser...a place to put keys, wallet, etc. Apparently he was afraid of the vintage Limoges platter I had placed there! So I decided to craft him a "placemat" from gorgeously worn old leather belts from thrift stores.

Gather your old leather belts and trim them to size (I made mine approximately 22 inches long).
Now comes the tedious part...punching holes! Punch small holes along one side of each of the end belts, and along both sides of the interior belts.
Using your embroidery needle and thread, simply whip stitch them together to create your mat!
End result- a luxuriously worn leather mat. Perfect for protecting dresser tops from scratches!
