You Will Need (9 things)

  • Compass
  • Lining + Cover Fabric
  • Sewing Needle
  • Paper
  • Pencil(s)
  • Dressmaking Pin(s)
  • Snap Button(s)
  • Scissors
  • Sewing + Embroidery Thread

Steps (12 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Use your iPod shuffle to draw out a template on to paper. Draw the length of the shuffle, the bottom of the shuffle, another length of the shuffle and the sides and then leave a large flap at the top.

  2. 2

Draw a circle using a compass with the same circumference of the click wheel. Draw a second circle that is slightly smaller than the one for the click wheel. Cut out all of the shapes with a pair of scissors.

  3. 3

Take your shuffle template and pick some fabric to use for the lining of your shuffle. I choose to use felt so that the cosy would be padded and protect the shuffle better. Draw around the shuffle template on to the lining fabric. Cut out the fabric shape.

  4. 4

Fold the fabric up around the iPod, pinning in to place and making sure that it fits snug. Mark out lightly where the click wheel is on the fabric.

  5. 5

Remove the fabric from the iPod and use your click wheel template to clearly mark out where the click wheel will be. Cut out the circle shape from the fabric.

  6. 6

Take the cover fabric and draw the shuffle template on to it. Cut out the fabric leaving a small margin around the sides of the template.

  7. 7

Place the lining fabric over the cover fabric in the way it should be and use the smaller circle template to draw a circle on the cover fabric through the hole on the lining fabric. Cut the circle out of the cover fabric.

  8. 8

Place the lining fabric back on top of the cover fabric and snip holes around the small hole on the cover fabric to the length of the hole on the lining fabric.

  9. 9

Take a needle and some embroidery thread in a colour that matches your fabric. Sew around the circle of the lining fabric brining the edges of the cover fabric down to the size of the lining fabric's hole.

  10. 10

Pin the cosy together so that the lining fabric is facing the outside and the cover fabric is on the inside. Use your iPod to make sure it fits correctly. Stitch up the sides of the cosy.

  11. 11

When you get to the end of the side, stitch along the edges at the top. Stitch along the flap of the cosy making sure that the excess fabric is tucked under when stitching.

  12. 12

Fold the cosy inside out. Sew a popper on to the cosy so that you can close the flap. You're all done but you could sew a length of ribbon to the cosy for a lanyard or you could just leave it off and use the one on the shuffle.
