This quilt is like a game for kids. there are all kinds of different things to spot in the novelty prints. Many i Spy quilts use squares, but this one uses triangles for a little twist.
This quilt is like a game for kids. there are all kinds of different things to spot in the novelty prints. Many i Spy quilts use squares, but this one uses triangles for a little twist.
Star with 30 squares of novelty fabric cut into 8" squares. Then cut each one from corner to corner to make triangles. Lay out triangles in pairs to make squares mixing up all the prints. I matched darker print with light prints to create a pattern. Sew the pairs of triangles together
Cut the dark print for he strips between the square blocks. I used 2.5" strips trimmed to pieces 7.75" long. You need 49 pieces. Cut the small yellow squares 2.5" x 2.5". You need 20 squares.
Lay out your large squares, strip pieces and small squares. Join each row of pieces together, so some will have large squares and strips, while others will have strips and small squares. Press all the seams flat. Then join the rows together to finish the quilt top.
Layer the backing fabric, quilt batting and quilt top together and baste them with basting spray or pins to keep them flat. Quilt through all three layers, and bind to finish. Note: If you haven't basted and quilted before, I can highly recommend the free beginner's quilting class on Craftsy: http://bit.ly/1cGUz29 (affiliate link)
