Lol, this so does not work in the most of cases... I'd offer to go socializing to the places where your crush goes, 'accidentally' stumbling upon him/her and having some good time together. It does crack an ice better than speaking for the sake of speaking. At least this worked for me perfectly:
I went to the concert where my crush also was, danced with him for a few times... His friends immediately understood what's the matter, told me he was single and mad about girls like me, so I should totally go for him without hesitating -- and so while dancing a kissed him annnnnnnd we're dating for four years now.
