If you'd like, here is a YouTube video of the same idea that my Cosplay group made. (Yes I am the one who's hair is being pinned up). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wajEvOFDZgY I've only ever done this with my own hair, but I know I was able to trick a lot of people into thinking I cut my hair. Sorry for the bad pics, I had to take them myself. I never knew it was that hard to take a picture of your own hair :P

Ignore the fairy outfit, as you can see, my hair is very long.
Tie the hair into a low ponytail. (Leave bangs out if you have them) I find this process works best when hair is semi wet.
Split the pony tail in half. Talk half of the hair and bring it up to the top of your head. Clip it down, and then lean it to one side and clip it down again. You will need at least four clips for this.
Repeat with the other side and end up with something like this.
Get your hat and place it over the top of you head. Now is the time to even out the hair remaining.
Gently pull the shorter hair into pigtails (Optional) But be careful or else you will pull the clips out.
Once you have your hair how you'd like, you're done!
