I will take your step by step through this easy technique to repair your very favorite jeans using a simple embroidery stitch, some fabric scraps and your imagination. You will save your jeans and create a piece of art that your can wear around town!
Gather your supplies. You will need fabric scraps (enough to cover the hole plus 1 and 1/2 inch overlap), cotton embroidery thread, scissors to cut the thread, a darning needle (I used between 7-14 in size), and optional fabric glue (I also used an old paintbrush to apply the glue).
Turn your jeans inside out to assess the hole and fit your chosen fabric over the hole with an inch and 1/2 of overlap.
Fit your fabric over the hole. Pin at the top and lift the fabric. Use your old paintbrush to apply the glue around the perimeter if the hole. If the hole is in the knee area, leave a little extra fabric to allow for that. Once your glue is in place, smooth your fabric over it. Allow it to dry for 2-4 hours.
Once it is dry, turn your jeans right side out again. Cut about an 18 inch piece of thread and place one side in the eye of the needle and knot the other side. Push the needle through from the inside of the jeans to the outside and create a "running stitch" around the perimeter of the hole.
Make rows of this stitch for added reinforcement. Feel free to get creative and add different color and shapes to make it more interesting.
Pair them with a colorful bag and take a stroll around town in your new wearable art!
