A really straightforward DIY tutorial that takes less than an hour. The most time-consuming part is drawing on the dots.

Welcome to the first tutorial that I'm sharing with you from my blog Heart Handmade UK. This DIY tutorial is one of the more popular posts and you can see why!
Take all of your Ping-Pong balls and use the xacto knife to mark an X on the join. Please be careful at this step! Take a look at the ping-pong ball, you should see a little join where the two halves of the ball were fused together in production. Beside the join seems to be the weakest part of the ball and the easiest place to insert the blade of your xacto knife. When you have made little x's in all of your balls, you can start to paint
You need the cup of salt and sugar and pencils to poke through your balls after you paint and while you paint. This allows them somewhere to dry if you're using paint pens that take a little longer to dry. Start painting your polka dots! You can use ring binder reinforcing stickers as a stencil, but those circles were huge and I wanted little polka dots. Allow to dry, just pop the polka dot Ping-Pong balls onto your lights and hang wherever you like and enjoy your gorgeous Festoon style lights!
