for christmas, i made some tote bags instead of wrapping the presents in paper. i made this cut-out embellishment on one bag and thought it would be nice to share this idea with you. maybe it´s a new way to decorate plain clothes and bags in an easy way!!!

You Will Need (1 thing)

  • Fabric s

Steps (5 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

ok, grab your outer fabric and trace around each part of your template (or do it free hand) with some chalk.

  2. 2

flip around the fabric and place another piece of fabric on the wrong side which is big enough to cover the whole image.

  3. 3

pin the two fabrics, so nothing can get out of place.
now sew the along the marks you made with chalk. if you can´t sew it with one seam, leave the ends hanging down and start a new seam. push the loose threads through the fabric and knot them on the backside.

  4. 4

make a small slit or hole in each part you want to cut out. i usually use a seam ripper for the first slit and then some nail scissors to cut our the fabric. make sure you just cut the fabric on top!!

  5. 5

instead of sewing with a machine you can sew it by hand. i even used a buttonhole stitch for the outlines once. (you can see it in the butterfly, i laid some violet tulle underneath)
