Update an old sweater to reflect the quilting trend for fall

I've never made a quilt in my life, but I'm beyond infatuated with the quilted trend floating into fashion pieces these days (and if Rachel Zoe says quilting is cool, who am I to argue?) For those of us who can't afford a Chanel bag, we have to create our own alternative, no? Up-cycling a sweater with dimensional quilting is a great way to transform an old piece with a new trend. Instructions

  1. Small 9626174981 a4785fbd24

Cut 2-3 inch circles. I used close to 60.

  2. Small 9629522088 ee328186b0

Beginning at center front, tack circles to top so folded edges alternate in direction.

  3. Small 9626386715 155014ec05

One row at a time, pin circles on each side to keep in place. Attach circles to top by stitching down center of row.

  4. Small 9626406983 5aac65a741

    Repeat for remaining rows.

  5. Small 9626427623 19cd20255a

Top-stitch crosswise over all rows to finish quilting.

  6. Small 9570917268 76f1f53e51

    Done.

  7. Small 9570872452 2d2699ee5a

    Make a statement.
