How To Make A Quilted Sweater
Update an old sweater to reflect the quilting trend for fall

About
I've never made a quilt in my life, but I'm beyond infatuated with the quilted trend floating into fashion pieces these days (and if Rachel Zoe says quilting is cool, who am I to argue?) For those of us who can't afford a Chanel bag, we have to create our own alternative, no? Up-cycling a sweater with dimensional quilting is a great way to transform an old piece with a new trend. You Will Need (4 things)
- Plain tee, blouse or Sweater
- 1 yd Knit Fabric (knit won't unravel when cut into circles)
- Sizzix Cutting Machine using 2-inch circle cutter (much easier than cutting 60 circles by hand
- Thread to match knit fabric
Steps (7 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
Cut 2-3 inch circles. I used close to 60.
-
2
Beginning at center front, tack circles to top so folded edges alternate in direction.
-
3
One row at a time, pin circles on each side to keep in place.
Attach circles to top by stitching down center of row. -
4
Repeat for remaining rows.
-
5
Top-stitch crosswise over all rows to finish quilting.
-
6
Done.

7
Make a statement.
