About

This brooch is an eco-friendly paper jewelry craft. The pictured brooch is made from a JoAnn's flyer, magazine images, hardcover book page and a cereal box.

Brooches are little pieces of wearable art. They can be used to adorn clothing, purses, hats or any surface you can attach a pin to.

You Will Need (5 things)

  • Acrylic Paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Bone Folder
  • Old Book Pages
  • Paint Brush

Steps (9 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Prepare a work surface and gather your supplies. Create a cardboard template of your circle punch. You can lay this over images to find designs that fit inside your punch.

  2. 2

Choose four images and glue them to your supporting paper using Mod Podge. It works best to apply glue to an area on your heavier paper and also on the back of your magazine print. Smooth out the air bubbles with your fingers. I do one image at a time. Magazine pages are glossy and not easy to adhere. Let Dry.

  3. 3

Varnish your designs and let dry. Punch a circle shape out of the cereal box and paint it with an acrylic paint color of your choice. Let Dry.

  4. 4

    Punch out the circle shapes.

  5. 5

Varnish backside (heavier paper) of the circles and let them dry. Don't be concerned if the paper curls, you can flex it flat again once it has dried.

  6. 6

Stack your circles in an eye pleasing manner. Glue the bottom circle to the cereal box base with Mod Podge or Elmer's white glue. Let Dry.

Hold the other three circles on top of the base and sew down the center. You can mark your center by folding the top circle in half and creasing it with a bone folder.

  7. 7

Fold your circle edges toward the center of the brooch to give it the 3D fanned appearance.

  8. 8

Use a strong glue to attach your pin back. I used a 1 1/4" pin back and Glossy Accents glue. Let Dry.

You are finished! You will want to make a dozen of these brooches once you discover how quick and easy they are to make.
