  Step 1

  Cast on however many stitches you need, but they must be an even number.

  Knit four rows. The next row will be the start of the brioche stitch rows. The pattern for each row is:
  
  *K1, B1* :repeat from * to 2 stitches from the end of the row, K2.

  This photo shows the first brioche row after the four knit rows. So I have done K1, B1, K1, B1, K1, and the stitch being worked is B1.

  Step 2

  And this is the same thing after a few rows have been worked.
  
  I found it was easy to see which stitch was to be worked as a brioche stitch, as the worked brioche stitch columns stand out from the knit columns.

  See how the right needle goes in under the top loop of the stitch on the row below?

  Step 3

  Then knit the stitch as normal - bring the yarn around the right needle, and the right needle through to the front.

  Step 4

  Then move the worked stitch off the left needle as normal. Now, at this point you may think that it's all going to unravel, but it won't!

  It will look like this!

  And when you turn it around to start a new row, it will look like this.
