While most silver cleaning methods involve losing part of that silver by polishing the oxide, this method will make your silver go back to its original metal state. In other words, no silver lost! The best part is that it can be done with kitchen items and it only takes 30 sec! Note: I'm a chemist so I did this in my lab! but you can do this in your kitchen as I have done many times.

Grab a (beaker) regular glass or glass bowl (DO NOT USE METAL!!!) and place aluminum foil at the bottom, covering the whole surface as shown below.
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil (you can increase the volume if you are planning on treating a large piece of jewelry)
Pour the boiling water in the glass which has the aluminum foil. Add to it about 2 tablespoons of baking soda. You should see bubbles appear as the baking soda dissolves and carbon dioxide is released.
Immediately add the piece of jewelry to clean. Make sure it touches the aluminum foil as we require contact between the two metals for a faster and more efficient reaction. Watch the video to see what happens!
