Blocking is something a lot of folks just don't do, but it's really worth the small amount of time it takes. It squares things up, opens patterns to be seen better and just makes everything look so much better. There are loads of ways to do it - this is my cheating way.

Blocking is something a lot of folks just don't do, but it's really worth the small amount of time it takes. It squares things up, opens patterns to be seen better and just makes everything look so much better. There are loads of ways to do it - this is my cheating way.

Instructions

  1. Small mat 450x441

Get your hands on a foam mat of some description - these were old kids mats that I've marked out a 6", 8" & 12" square on.

  2. Small corners 450x446

Start by pinning your square by the corners only

  3. Small pins away 336x450

Then place lots of pins along the sides - angled as pictured.

  4. Small ironing

Shoot the crochet with steam from your iron, then hover the hot iron over the work for a short time. Take care not to touch the pin head or your yarn.

  5. Small pinsoutmagic

Remove the pins and voila! Neat, straight crochet.
