In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to add inseam pockets to a dress, but you can do this with any garment.
Place your left hand (in case you’re right handed) on a sheet of paper and trace a line around it.
Turn it upside down and you have a pocket. Cut it, adding 1cm (3/8″) seam allowance. Trace it to your fabric and cut two pairs.
Place your pocket piece on top of the front panel of the dress, right sides together (RST). Pin in place. Sew with a 1cm (3/8”) seam allowance (SA). Finish the raw edge with an overlocker or a zig zag stitch
Turn the pocket away from the dress and press well. As an option, you can edgestich, to secure the pocket in place. Repeat steps 3 and 4, for the back of the dress.
Place the front and back panels of the dress RST. Align the pockets pieces and pin in place. Sew the side seam with a 1cm (3/8”) SA. When you get to the pocket, stitch down past the top, the width of your SA. Put your needle down and pivot the fabric so you can now sew the pocket. When you get done sewing around the pocket, stitch out to the SA on the dress and pivot again. Finish sewing the side seam. Finish the raw edge of the pockets with an overlocker or a zig zag stitch. Press the side seam open.
Turn the dress, right side out and press well.
