I wanted to make my own necklace/ring charms on the cheap without buying resin or having premade molds - I found a few videos that used hot glue - but they always came out as glitter blobs so I tried to do it my own way, Hope you enjoy :) P.s I realize it says 'cowboy' in the title because it was supposed to be a how to for all three charms I made at the same time (AT-AT, Tie Fighter and a cowboy). . . I can't seem to take the word cowboy off . . .

Description

I wanted to make my own necklace/ring charms on the cheap without buying resin or having premade molds - I found a few videos that used hot glue - but they always came out as glitter blobs so I tried to do it my own way, Hope you enjoy :) P.s I realize it says 'cowboy' in the title because it was supposed to be a how to for all three charms I made at the same time (AT-AT, Tie Fighter and a cowboy). . . I can't seem to take the word cowboy off . . .

Instructions

  1. Small at at crossing

Choose a silhouette or picture of the Charm you want - in this case the AT-AT from Star wars.

  2. Small 20120424 003527

Print it out (remember to flip the image horizontally before you print it if there are letters in it as charm will be mirror image). Apply hot glue over the top of image making sure that it is completely covered. Don't worry if hot glue is messy - the messy part won't be seen when it's finished.

  3. Small 20120424 004220

Once the glue is dry flip the paper over a light box (or in my case an ipad on the brightest setting with a white screen) and trace the outline of the image. (The only reason this shouldn't be done without the glue is because if you're using a marker it will go through and stain your lightbox/ipad)

  4. Small 20120424 022742

Cut the shape out, I used scissors and an Xacto knife . . . however be REALLY careful with the Xacto knife - to make cleaner cuts I sliced the sides like peeling an orange which cut me up good as you can see in the pic. . . :( Note - the picture is of the tie fighter.

  5. Small 20120424 022155

Once it's cut out - paint the base colour of your image - in my case gun metal grey/silver.

  6. Small 20120424 034401

Once dry - Flip the charm over and add more hot glue to the relevant spot on the back depending on whether you want it to be a ring or a necklace. You can also paint the back if you're a real perfectionist.

  7. Small 20120424 041341

Flip the charm over and add detail . . .and you're done! Thanks for reading!
