Description

Escape the Christmas consumer culture and create some beautiful, tasteful, and personal baubles for your tree! You don’t have to go wild or spend a fortune to bring Christmas to your home. You can create special decorations for your home by following these easy tips!

Instructions

  1. Step 1 You will need: Twine or string (optional) - you can get a lot of string cheaply and easily, and one ball can be used to create lots of different baubles! This won’t be needed if you’re using an existing bauble. Cellotape or glue (optional) - for attaching the string or twine. Something round - this is quite vague but there’s a lot you can use. I’d recommend using a plain or old bauble, but other spherical objects that you no longer want or need and that can be easily covered or painted are great. Paints - Little pots of paint will work here, but think less what you’d use on the wall and more what children would use for arts and crafts. You can use any colour you want. Temporary tattoos (optional) - This can be an easier option if you’re not the best painter and can be stuck onto your bauble for an extra touch. Paper towel (if you’re using a temporary tattoo) Ceramic sealant (optional) - This can help your bauble design last longer.

  2. Step 2 Once you’ve got all your tools, you need to get your sphere ready for decoration. If it’s already a blank, white bauble then that’s already done, or you can feel free to paint it a different colour. If it’s another sort of sphere get it painted in whatever colour you want. Let the paint dry.

  3. Step 3 This step is pretty broad and simple. Just decorate your bauble in whatever way you feel like. If you want to paint a pattern on, then go ahead, and likewise you can use the temporary tattoo! If you’re decorating your bauble using a temporary tattoo then this is when the paper towel comes in handy. Wet you paper towel, then place and hold it on the top of the tattoo and press down for 30 seconds. When you peel away the tattoo, your design will be revealed!

  4. Step 4 Let your bauble design dry and set. Once this is done you should have a beautiful, and personal, Christmas decoration! You can then choose whether to cover it in a ceramic sealant that will make the design longer lasting.

  5. Step 5 If you’ve used an existing bauble then you can stop here and get it on the tree. If you’ve used another sphere then get a short length of string or twine and stick it to the top of the bauble using tape or glue. Once this is dry you’re ready to hang it on the tree! And as simple as that you’ve created your first bauble! Now get cracking on the next, you’ve got a whole tree to cover!
