This simple project uses spray paint, PVA glue and tea-towels to upcycle a tatty old hat box into a bed for your pet.
Remove all handles, straps and locks from an old hat box.
In a well-ventilated area (preferably outside!) place onto a piece of cardboard or newspaper and spray paint with a coat of primer.
Spray paint with a brightly coloured all-purpose spray paint. Use fewer fine layers of spray paint rather than one thick coat and allow to dry thoroughly between layers.
Cut tea towels (I found these at the pound shop) to the depth of the hat box and use PVA glue to stick them to the inner edges. Tip - use the already-hemmed edges of the tea towels at the top of the box for neatness. Repeat this process in the lid and line the centre with a circle cut from the tea towel.
Cut two circles from the tea towels to fit inside the hat box. Stitch with right-sides together, leaving a gap for stuffing.
Stuff with the filling from an old pillow or cushion and sew up the opening.
Place the cushion inside the hat box and invite your furry friends to try it out!
