A friend of mine had a birthday coming and she has always been a fan of the handmade and the Harry Potter films.

Rip up some pages of the book and lay them roughly over the canvas to gage how many you need. Ripping the pages is better than cutting because the ripped edges smooth down better when glued and dried.
Begin to glue the pieces down onto the canvas, apply glue only to the back of the paper you're sticking down Over lap and mix up the words in different directions, overlap the pieces.
Once the paper is dry, write on and map out your wording. I chose to use my own handwritten style.
I went over this to build up the letters so they were thicker and easy to read. This was done carefully and a few times to make sure all edges were neat.
Apply glue over the top of the paper and lettering. Let this dry over night preferably. I applied a sprinkling of glitter around the lettering and applied a few more layers of PVA. Around the edges of the canvas I also glued and smoothed down to create a neat view from all angles.
The edges once dry I painted with glitter paint. This took a few layers applied once each had dried.
Finished off with a layer of PVA on the edges, this keeps the glitter from shedding when moved.
Ta-Da!
My friend loved this and it made her plain walls in her flat a little more personalised and homely.
