Description

This is a very simple project to keep you looking cute with your camera hanging around your neck and – best yet – it can be made in less than an hour.

Instructions

  1. Small 115402 2f2016 11 14 203000 camera%2bstrap%2b1

Measure a length of grosgrain ribbon so that your camera will hang at a suitable level. Remember that the D-rings and leather tabs will add about 5 cm (2 inches) of length at each end. Here I’ve used a turquoise grosgrain ribbon and stitched a narrower pink twill ribbon down the centre.

  2. Small 115402 2f2016 11 14 203022 camera%2bstrap%2b2

Cut two strips of leather (or faux leather) the same width as the wider ribbon and 8 cm (31/4 inches) long.

  3. Small 115402 2f2016 11 14 203035 camera%2bstrap%2b3

Pass the leather strip around the flat bar of the D-ring and fold it in half over one end of the ribbon strap. Be sure to tuck the ribbon into the leather by at least 2 cm (3/4 inch) so that when the pieces are sewn together the stitching will hold. Pin in place to hold with sewing pins. Repeat with the other end of the strap.

  4. Small 115402 2f2016 11 14 203039 camera%2bstrap%2b4

Stitch a box shape onto the folded leather through all layers. If necessary add extra stitching to hold the weight of your camera. Some heavier camera bodies or lenses might need a double row of stitching or an X through the middle of the box
just to keep your special camera safe.
