This project cost me about 25 dollars in total. I love my new decorations! And the best part is, they're almost all reusable!
This project cost me about 25 dollars in total. I love my new decorations! And the best part is, they're almost all reusable!
I made my chandelier first, inspired by cardboard chandelier by alchemy l on cutoutandkeep. First I drew the image of a chandelier onto the cardboard (you can use a stencil for this if you have one) I cut it out, then used that as a stencil to make another. You could make as many as you want depending on how "thick" you want your chandelier to look. I just used two pieces. After I got these cut out I carefully cut them both in half down the center. (my bf had to help :p) Then I hot glued them together to make the chandelier 3D. After it dried completely I spray painted it black. This took about two coats. After that dried I hot glued some gold sequins where the flame of the candle should be, and draped some cobwebbing over the entire chandelier for a spooky effect. I used fishing line to attach it to my ceiling.
Next I worked on my bats. These were super easy. I just drew the image of a bat onto some black construction paper(again you can use a stencil if you have one) I made 3 different sizes of bats and then cut them out. This took about 10 sheets of paper. Then I taped them to my door with scotch tape.
After that I made my autumn bouquet. To do this I bought 2 sets of fake falling leaves at walmart for a dollar a piece (the dollar store has good ones too)I also got these little things that look like orange berries for a dollar too. I arranged them together and tied them up with some orange ribbon. I hung them on my door with a straightened out wire clothes hanger fixed into a wreath holder.
Next was my spooky tree. I got this idea from Martha Stewart's Halloween magazine. I went out into the yard and found about 4 twisted dead spooky looking branches. I brushed the dirt off them, hot glued them together and then spray painted them black. I stood them up in a cup, just one from my kitchen and shoved pebbles into the bottom of it for stability. Then I scraped up some dead grass for hay and placed in inside the cup as well.
Then I made my little ghosts. For this I used coffee filters. I put a small amount of rolled up paper towel in the center of them filter and wrapped the bottom part of the filter around it. That forms the head. Then I tied fishing line around the neck part to make the skirt more full. I used a needle to thread fishing line through the head of the ghost and hang him from the tree. I also had some extra bats so I hung them on the tree with fishing line also.
Now for my little "spooky" sign. For this is just drew the word spooky onto some cardboard and cut it out with the razor blade. Then I colored in my letters (I used marker but paint would be better) Then when it dried I hot glued some pegs to back to help it stand up.
Then as a finishing touch I bought some cheap decorations form the dollar store (mini skulls, mini pumpkins, big pumpkins, and a light up pumpkin)
