I have made three batches with no success. Mine gets really hard when it cools off. I've read some blogs and they mention that the sugar should never be cooked for long.
Is the cooled off syrup supposed to be as hard as glass when you tap on it with a spoon?
Help please! I'm so frustrated cos I really want to sugar wax because my skin is really sensitive.
instead of using a thermometer you can look at the substance, once it's almost ready, it'll get a gold-brown color and the substance will be "syrupy": so when you let it run off a spoon, it won't go as "fast" as when it was still water..
you can also put some on the side of you pan, if it sticks instead of running down you can turn down the heat..
next the bubbles will get a yellowish color and when taking it off of the fire, it'll be darkish-brown...
This is just what I experienced, see it for yourselves
I have tried this twice now. I love it! So much easier than waxing! And less painful. I was a long time waxer. And though I will still get my eyebrows done at a salon, this is my new treatment. (I've tried to wax my own eyebrows before. It wasn't pretty)
@Deanna...COffee filters! They are cheap to buy, easy to cut up and are customizable. You can also go to a fabric store (joanns for instant) and buy a yard or two of muslin. It's pretty cheap and you can get LOTS.
I tried this and it was a DISASTER! sticky stuff everywhere! i had to scrub it off for a really long time. I really wanted this to work I guess i over boiled it T_T
ive tried a similar version of this another suggaring method and it worked well on me. i let my sugar get to a rich dark amber color so it wouldnt be so sticky thanks for this how-to!
I'm not too sure about that, I've only ever bought Alexandria sugar wax, which is basically the same thing, only it's a little less viscous, and after you reheat this stuff a bit it works exactly the same.
@Leslie M.: You could probably skip the lemon juice if you don't have any handy, just replace it with water. No promises that it would work that way but I suppose it would be worth a shot. Good luck,
So I tried this out yesterday! It worked really great on places where I have thicker hair (like on my legs), but I have really thin wispy hair on my arms, so it didn't work as well there...it just ripped some hairs out, broke some, and didn't work on the rest.
Overall, it's great though! So easy to make and cheap too ^-^
Just use enough to cover your legs in a thin layer of wax. I don't know if you're supposed to let the wax harden onto your legs but I think that makes it a major pain in the rear end. As for the soft or hard wax bit, I'm not really sure, you don't want syrup, haha. I hope I helped. =]
Heya, your idea sounds really great! I'm definitely going to try it out.
I've never heard of sugaring though...how much of it are you supposed to use? And do you let it just cool and harden on your skin and rip it off like wax? Also, is it more like soft or hard wax?

i'm glad you posted your own here! it's hard to ask questions to a mysterious writer on the internet, much easier in our little community.
I'll tell you how it goes, however awkward that sounds haha
