Description

My boyfriend won't take me shopping to HIS stores anymore because I STILL find craft supplies! I just love the faux abalone picks out there, all the different colors! And we don't talk about the Beatles pick I found!

Instructions

  1. Small mvc 001s 1276445332

Get yourself some picks. I cannot believe what they have out there, so pretty. The thickness doesn't really matter here because the beads keep them hanging down nicely. The blue pair was thin, the white was medium. And just because I need to have everything SEMI-perfect, I made a pattern for the drill holes.

  2. Small mvc 002s 1276445400

Gather up the findings supplies. I used the blue craft wire for a bead that didn't quite work on an eye pin or head pin.

  3. Small mvc 003s 1276445435

Find some "Bling" and beads for your earrings. I used nail gems, plastic gems, and a couple of large recycled glass rhinestones. Some of the beads are recycled, some new. Lay out your bling how you want it to look on the pick. And lay out how you want the beads to hang below the pick.

  4. Small mvc 014s 1276445602

Mark the holes on the pick. Use your choice of method for making the holes. I use a Dremel because I have one, and I'm lazy and want the job done QUICK. :P

  5. Small mvc 013s 1276445633

This is the brand of dimensional glaze I use for EVERYTHING. (I think I should get paid for the plug, thankyouverymuch!)

  6. Small mvc 015s 1276445712

Squirt some dimensional glaze on the pick and spread it around to make a thin layer. This will be the glue for the "bling" and it will also give it a nice glossy look. And besides, it keeps you from getting the dreaded "over spill" look that you would get from just gluing the gems on. Place arranged bling on pick.

  7. Small mvc 020s 1276445772

I place the picks under a bowl over night to dry. That way there is no dust to settle on the glaze and you have a nice glossy finish. Letting it dry over night also assures that the glaze is totally dry and you won't get imprints from your fingers when you handle it.

  8. Small mvc 012s 1276445864

While your picks are drying, you will have time to "string" your beads onto your head/eye pins. The big blue beads I picked required some basic wire wrapping.

  9. Small mvc 021s 1276445898

Almost done. Waiting for the picks to dry. Actually I worked on 2 other projects and went to bed while waiting for the picks to dry.

  10. Small mvc 023s 1276445955

Add the head/eye pins to the pick and you are done. And WOW they're long. I think I'll get rid of the silver beads above the big blue bead. Live and learn.

Close up of the pattern for the drill holes.
