Customise your project We have given the exact bead sequences we've used on this project. However, as you will have a variety of pearls in different colours, you may want to embellish your design with even more.

Instructions

  1. Small bdsultdbb0906fig1lowres

Thread a beading needle with 250cm of thread. Add a stopper bead by threading a gold rocaille onto your beading thread. Position it about 15cm from the end of the thread, then loop the thread back though the bead and pull tight. Pick up 31 more gold rocailles. Tie the two ends together to form a ring including the stopper bead to create row 1 of the net tube.

  2. Small bdsultdbb0906fig2lowres

Pick up 3 gold beads and pass your needle through the fourth bead on row 1. Pick up 1 gold, 1 clear and 1 gold, and thread through the next fourth bead along (8th bead from start). Repeat all the way around, alternating between the two bead sequences: GGG and GCG.

  3. Small bdsultdbb0906fig3lowres

When row 2 is complete go through the first two beads of this row so that your needle is coming out of the middle bead of the first set of 3.

  4. Small bdsultdbb0906fig4lowres

Continue making the remaining rows in the following sequences: Row 3: GCC CCG Row 4: CCC GCG Row 5: GCC CCG Row 6: CCC GCG Row 7: GCC CCG Row 8: CCC GCG Row 9: GCC CCG Row 10: CCC GCG Row 11: GCC CCG Row 12: CCC GCG Row 13: GCC CCG Row 14: CCC GGG Row 15: All gold Row 16: All gold When the final row is complete, thread back through the netting until you come out at your first thread end. Tie the 2 ends together. Weave through several beads and trim. Repeat with the remaining thread end. Following steps 1 to 4 make 2 more tubes.

  5. Small bdsultdbb0906fig5lowres

To make one half of the beaded fastener, add 100cm of thread to your needle and attach to one of the tubes, knotting between beads to secure. Come out of a central rocaille on one of the three bead sequences on the last row.

  6. Small bdsultdbb0906fig6lowres

Pick up 10 gold rocailles, 1 large pearl, 20 gold rocailles, 1 smaller pearl and 1 more gold rocaille. Excluding the last rocaille added, thread back through all the beads up to and including the large pearl.

  7. Small bdsultdbb0906fig7lowres

Pick up 10 more gold rocailles and weave back into the netted tube on the opposite side to where you began your fastener. Weave back through, knotting between beads to secure and trim the thread.

  8. Small bdsultdbb0906fig8lowres

For the other fastener end, attach 100cm of thread and come out in the centre of three beads as before. Pick up eleven gold rocailles. Then pick up as many beads as you need to loop round your large pearl. Weave back down through the eleventh rocaille you picked up.

  9. Small bdsultdbb0906fig9lowres

Pick up ten more gold rocailles and weave back into the lace tube on the opposite side to where you began your fastening loop. Weave back through the netting, knotting between beads to secure. Trim off any excess thread.

  10. Small bdsultdbb0906fig10lowres

To create the joining strands, prepare your needle with 300cm of thread and attach it to one of the fastener tubes, knotting between beads as before so that the thread comes out at the central bead of a three-bead sequence.

  11. Small bdsultdbb0906fig11lowres

    Thread the beads according to the strand sequence given. Strand Sequence 20G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 20G, 1 large pearl, 20G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 2G, 2C, 20G. Then attach to a centre bead of three on the third net tube (without the fastening). Weave through to the central bead in the next bead sequence and repeat the strand sequence, this time passing back through the large pearl in the centre, rather than adding a new one.

  12. Small bdsultdbb0906fig12lowres

On the tube with the fastener, pass your needle through the central rocaille of a bead sequence next to where you began your strands. Keep repeating this process until you have eight strands in each section. Complete the necklace by repeating on the other side to attach the remaining tube with fastening loop.

Your final necklace should look something like this!
