Gobble Pops

DIY Eco-Chic Coffee Filter Turkeys for Thanksgiving

Posted by The Brass Paperclip Project

About

After Halloween I had a stash of leftover lollipops that I didn't want to waste, but knew I'd never eat. With Thanksgiving on the horizon I decided a holiday craft was in order! After a few glasses of wine and some brainstorming with a creative friend...Gobble Pops were born! Here is the how-to for a cute, kid-friendly, eco-chic craft that uses simple recycled materials and random supplies from around the house.

You Will Need (9 things)

  • Coffee Filters
  • Coffee Filter
  • Marker Pen(s)
  • Markers Or Bingo Dabbers
  • Recycled Paper Bag s, Cardboard Boxes
  • Glue Stick
  • Googly Eyes
  • Red And Orange Paper Scraps
  • Pipe Cleaner(s) , String Or Twist Ties

Steps (9 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

    Gather your supplies.

  2. 2

Color your coffee filters using dots or markers. Try spots, swirls or stripes for different effects.

  3. 3

Spritz coffee filters with water or dab with a clean sponge until saturated and colors are blending together. (You may want to do this on a cookie sheet or plastic table cloth.) Let dry. You can use a hair dryer to speed up the process.

  4. 4

While coffee filters are drying, trace small hand shapes on paper bags or circles on cardboard and cut out. Snip small orange triangles and little red ovals for turkey beaks and waddles.

  5. 5

Assemble turkeys and/or faces using glue stick and pen or google eyes.

  6. 6

Assemble your turkeys! Poke a hole in the center of a dry coffee filter and push the lollipop stick through the hole. Gather the coffee filter up around the lollipop base, bunching up the paper to look like tail feathers.

  7. 7

Add your turkey to the front by gathering the bottom of the turkey and the coffee filter together...then securing to the lollipop stick with a pipe cleaner, string or twist tie. Fluff it out to your liking. If you are using just a round face, secure the coffee filter first, adjust the ruffles, then glue the face to the front. If your coffee filter is flopping away from the lollipop, add a dab of glue to the front and back of the lollipop wrapper, then press and hold until it stays put.

  8. 8

VOILA! A flock of turkeys for Thanksgiving!!

  9. 9

Take it one step further and style your turkeys with easy napkin fan folds for a gorgeous holiday table.
